It was a warm and mostly sunny afternoon at Nathan Phillips Square — the kind of day that invites people to gather. We were proud to be part of Newcomers Day 2025, and what a day it turned out to be; full of energy.
More than 200 people stopped by our booth. There was a steady buzz — conversations, questions and real stories being shared. With the help of so many amazing organizations, the square truly felt welcoming, like the heart of the city opened up for the afternoon.

Our hardworking team was there to listen and connect, not just to provide information, but to offer genuine moments of warmth and welcome. We also captured some of the day on camera — quick smiles, spontaneous chats, people who were strangers just minutes before, now sharing a laugh and maybe hope that can carry them into the future. That’s what this day was all about: small, genuine connections that could grow into something more.

Sometimes, it’s not about perfect programs or flashy takeaways — though, yes, we believe our purple pencils were a hit — it’s about knowing someone is walking with you, that you’re not alone, and that you belong wherever you are.

Huge thanks to our amazing LEF frontline team, who welcomed more than 200 people with open arms, no matter the weather. You reminded us all what service and community look like in action.

And to everyone who stopped by — thank you. For your stories, your trust, and your time. We’re truly glad you’re here, and we’re as LEF honoured to be walking this journey alongside you.
Couldn't make it? That's okay, our team is always ready to connect with you at newcomers@lefca.org or by phone at 416-769-0830.
