Children and Families

a child is playing on some ropes

The Learning Enrichment Foundation believes in the involvement of children, families, Educators, and community in the operation of our Child Care Centres. Our Child Care Programs support and supplement the family unit.

Our professional Educators provide exceptional and high-quality early childhood education and care. We consider play as the essence of learning and that through active learning children will discover their world.

Through play, a child can set free their imagination and acquire skills, which will foster success in all facets of their development. The Educator’s role is to structure the child’s environment to promote discovery and learning through play. We continually strive to offer a stimulating, enriching and inclusive program which fosters optimal growth in the child’s social, emotional, intellectual, physical and language development.

LEF strives to meet the varying needs of all the children in our care.

We do our utmost to ensure children and families have access to an environment that meets the child’s developmental needs, and, where possible, adaptations are made to accommodate individual needs.

To ensure a high standard of care, all staff members are expected to read and adhere to LEF policies and procedures, and to be well acquainted with the licensing standards set out in the CCEYA and O.Reg. 137/15 and the City of Toronto Children’s Services’ Assessment for Quality Improvement and working knowledge of “How Does Learning Happening? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years.”

About LEF Child Care

Early childhood educators leading outside learning and play

LEF began offering child care in the early 1980s to allow parents to support their families by working or returning to complete academic pursuits.

Since opening our first centre, we have expanded to more than 30 child care centres and before and after school programs located across Toronto. Through a strong partnership with the Toronto District and Catholic District School Boards we opened many centres inside schools, which better meets the needs of children and parents as the instructional day and licensed child care are co-located. LEF is now one of the largest providers of child care services in the City of Toronto.

LEF’s child care centres support almost 2,000 children daily from ages 0 – 12. We provide an inclusive program that meets the diverse needs of children within our communities. Each of our centres provides a unique atmosphere and strives to meet specific neighbourhood needs. Our ability to serve communities and enable people within them is built on our commitment to reinforcing a sense of wonder.

We value inclusive play and curiosity in our work and have built an environment of empowerment and mentorship alongside our educators.

We facilitate change by encouraging parents to become catalysts themselves, and we have modernized our operations to support all of this with tightly integrated technology. LEF families are connected to our Parent Portal. This portal provides families with direct access to their account: to see current balances, make payments and update contact information.

Through play, a child has the opportunity to set free their imagination and acquire skills, which will foster success in all facets of their development. As Early Childhood Educators, our role is to foster a child’s exploration and provide adult supported experiences based on observations and children’s interests. We offer stimulating, enriching and inclusive programs, providing an holistic approach to the unique needs of each child.

Our vision for child care promotes the well being of children and their families, as we know this is necessary for children to succeed. To meet all the needs of a family, parents are welcome to participate in many aspects of LEF programming. Due to the limitations of parental involvement at this time, all programs use Storypark. This virtual tool connects families and educators, and provides an avenue for sharing pictures, examples of learning and developmental milestones.

For those interested in becoming involved in the early childhood sector, we invite you to explore our Early Childhood Assistant certification which has intake throughout the year.
