The Learning Enrichment Foundation (LEF) is a not-for-profit (with a social enterprise mindset) which provides a multidisciplinary and holistic set of supports for members of our community including those who are: in transition, new to Canada, out of the workforce, and a host of other individual circumstances. We currently knit together Settlement Services, Childcare, Employment Supports, Skills Training, and Language Training.

Position Summary:
We are looking for Ontario Certified English Language Teacher Certificate (OCELT). On an ongoing basis the English Language Instructor is responsible for facilitating learning, creating effective learning environment, and providing client-centred real-world task instruction, communicative programming that prepares clients for participation in Canadian society. Daily, the English Language Instructor is responsible for classroom management for hybrid service delivery, preparing daily lesson plans in accordance with the LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) curriculum, CLB and PBLA guidelines, adapting and revising lessons as needed, monitoring, and assessing client progress and other duties as outlined.
Reports to: Manager of Language training
Overall Responsibilities:
Groundwork in the Client Engagement Code of Practice and other LEF’s policies
Provide a learning environment that promotes equal opportunities and prohibits discriminatory practices
Ensure language instruction is based on clients’ needs and goals
Encourage clients to become autonomous, active, and self-aware language learners, engaged in and responsible for their learning
Observe all aspects of Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA) protocol: classroom- and teacher- based assessment approach that is integrated through the teaching/learning cycle when delivering lesson plan
Maintain close communication with classroom instructor and/or program manager to ensure smooth instruction delivery
Provide real world task instruction in compliance with Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) standards and curriculum developed
Apply assessment and evaluation practices: central classroom practice; yield accurate, reliable results; be part of effective planning; inform and enhance exemplary teaching
Ensure that Portfolios include evidence of performance related to CLB standards, together with observation, records, and feedback related to specific criteria and use this information to discuss the progress being made toward client’s goals
Collaborate and be part of effective planning by sharing best practices
Incorporate computer technology effectively in language instruction, including common applications and web-based toolsEnsure and monitor high level of client attendance and active participation
Assist clients individually with short-term issues and long-term goals as part of an integrated case management approach with the rest of the client engagement team
Must be able to deliver both online and in-person classes when required
Must have current vulnerable police reference check
Other Responsibilities:
Become an active member of LEF’s holistic & integrated approach to client service delivery which includes but is not limited to and as required:
Working alongside an inter-disciplinary team of skills training and language instructors, client engagement staff, and CNC (Care for Newcomer Children) staff that meet regularly to case manage
Work with other LEF staff to ensure that clients have the appropriate engagements/interventions; support the outcomes of language, skills training, labour market and settlement objectives
Attend staff and team meetings, participate in extra-curricular activities that further integrate LEF services and other activities
Ensure record keeping is performed including reports
Required to work extended hours including evenings and weekends and provide itinerant services as per organizational needs
Qualifications and Experience:
Ontario Certified English Language Teacher Certificate (OCELT) is a must
Minimum three years of classroom experience in the adult LINC/ESL field
University degree or post secondary education
Understanding and application of the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) for task-based curriculum planning, instruction, and assessment
Observing all aspects of Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA) protocol: classroom- and teacher - based assessment approach that is integrated through the teaching/learning cycle
Experience in providing real world task instruction in compliance with PBLA guidelines
Strong pedagogical skills and creative abilities
Success in working with people of diverse cultural backgrounds
Experience in integrating technology in teaching, and ability to adapt to innovative technology
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) or equivalent
Experience providing synchronous and asynchronous online instruction using virtual delivery tools and software (e.g., MS Teams, Zoom, Google Classroom, etc.) is an asset
Experience providing online training through a Moodle-based Learning Management System will be an asset
Must be able to deliver both online and in-person classes when required
Notes: Successful incumbent must complete online CCLB PBLA training and Avenue.ca Stage 2 training when assigned.
